There is plenty of talk going on about who stuck who in the ass with a needle and who’s juiced and all the rest of it. Frequently appearing in these discussions is Lance Armstrong, whose seven straight championships in Le Tour de France couldn’t have possibly been accomplished on athletic prowess alone. So, speculation runs rampant among sports fans as to whether Armstrong was juiced.
It is my firm belief that LA should never ever admit to doping if he did it. And here’s why.
Lance Armstrong has become the face of cancer research, and his Lance Armstrong Foundation raises millions for cancer research. If LA admits to doping, such a blow for the poster boy for fighting cancer would have a fatal effect on the work his foundation does.
But what about justice? If Lance Armstrong did use performance enhancing drugs, (And for the life of me I hope he didn’t.) coming clean would do more damage than good, and living with such a secret eating away at the conscience might be a worse punishment than anything The International Cycling Union could do to him. The easy way out would be to come clean and get it all off his chest. It would be much harder to live life knowing he was a phony while giving pep talks to patients and lobbying congress and other political bodies.
So, Lance, if you were juiced for those seven magical years, keep your mouth shut.
